Stan Perez Withdrawing from Sheriff’s Campaign

February 19, 2010

El Dorado County resident Stan Perez, who filed in June of last year to open a campaign fundraising committee and explore a candidacy for El Dorado County Sheriff, has removed his name from the race.

“This was a very difficult decision given so many wonderful people encouraged and endorsed me, and supported my plans to significantly improve public safety in this county,” Perez said.  “However, for both financial and personal reasons I must withdraw.”

Although I’m running throughout the county meeting with voters, it takes a significant amount of money to get your campaign message out.  Unfortunately, potential contributors have fallen on difficult times themselves, which led to my family and I pouring over $51,000 into our campaign,” Perez added.

“It’s very expensive to run a campaign, especially with so many candidates in this race” Perez said.  “And, the fundraising comes at a time when many are struggling to pay their bills and put food on the table.”

“I’m grateful to the residents of this county for their overwhelming support, for opening their homes to me, and for volunteering so many hours.  I will find others way to repay them for this honor, including remaining active in the future of our county and volunteerism.”

“I wish the wonderful men and women of the Sheriff’s Department the best in the challenging months and years ahead.  And, I will assist the next sheriff in every way possible.”
